cell group questions:
- Discuss some examples from Scripture of people who clearly show they had a streak of Cain and Abel both dwelling inside them.
- Can you think of anyone from your knowledge of history who displayed this as well?
- What verses from Scripture would seem to indicate that this is a common situation we each face?
- Pray together that we would remember that "sin is crouching at the door," that we would be strong to "rule over it," and that we would recognize when we break down on these two points.
- Cain is the actively antagonistic agent in Genesis 4:1-17. We know that, underlying the whole plot, his heart is not rightly related to God. By contrast, what is Abel's defining characteristic? (Hebrews 11:4)
- If Abel's offering was superior due to his superior faith, and God took notice of Abel and spurned Cain, what are the high stakes of faith that is restrained by pride?
- Have you ever felt like God took a dim view of your relationship to him, or did not accept your approach? Have you ever experienced a coolness between you? What does that most likely indicate, considering that God accepted both Abel and Abel's offering?
- Pray together for the gift of full faith, especially in light of Hebrews 11:6. Pray that you will not only believe, but that you will be consumed with the belief that God exists, and that he is able to fulfill those who seek him.
